World Quiz is Almost Here!
Boarding announcement: on October 1, Geo Genius 2.0 takes off, and with it comes the feature I've been building toward for a long time. The World Quiz is finally here.
Here's what it is, how it works, and why I think it's the most fun way to learn the world map that exist today.
One flight a day. 195 capitals. One goal.
The idea is simple. Every day you take one trip around the world. Each stop is a country, and your job is to name its capital. Keep going for as long as you can, beat your top score, and work your way toward the ultimate title: Geo Genius, the person who can name all 195.
This is not a regular test. There are no chapters, no drills, no pass or fail. It's a travel adventure that happens to teach you the map along the way.
I wanted learning the map to feel like a trip, not a test.
How the World Quiz works
Most people can name maybe 40 countries. The World Quiz shows you your real number, and then it gets very hard to leave it there.
Start at the Destination Board
Every attempt begins at the Destination Board. This is where you choose where to fly next.
Countries come in three difficulty levels: Easy, Medium, and Hard. Pick the destination you're confident about, answer its capital, and keep your journey going. The order is up to you, so plan your route smartly.
Three lifelines for when the map gets tricky
Chasing your best score, you'll get stuck eventually. That's what the three help buttons are for.
- 50/50: cuts the answer options in half
- Skip: lets you pass on a question
- Extra Life: lets you get one answer wrong and keep flying
And yes, you can combine them. Use Extra Life together with 50/50 and you're guaranteed to get through.
Clear a continent, earn a Boost
If you manage to answer every country in a continent, say all of Europe, you earn a Boost for your next attempt.
A Boost lets you skip an entire continent on your next flight. Earn more than one and you can stack them, skipping up to 5 continents if you've collected them all. That's how you go from a good run to a Geo Genius run.
Your flight summary
When your trip ends, you land on a full breakdown of your adventure.
You'll see a graph of how many countries you visited, where you finally landed, some helpful stats, and a short note about the country that tripped you up, so it sticks next time.
Every attempt also earns you gems and keys, which help you take more flights in a day.
Ranks, keys, and extra flights
Keys unlock more attempts
Keys matter. For every 10 countries you answer, you earn one key. Want a second flight today? It costs 3 keys to unlock another attempt.
Climb through 9 ranks
Becoming a Geo Genius is not an easy task, so the ranks are there to keep you moving. There are 9 ranks in total, and you progress through them as your scores climb.
Each time you rank up, you get a shareable rank card. Post it, send it to a friend, and let them know what they're up against.
Bring your friends along
Since we're talking about friends: the World Quiz comes with one more new feature. You can now add friends and compete on score.
Copy your invite code, send it to a friend, and once they join you'll see each other on the board. Bragging rights included.

I hope this new way of exploring the map makes learning geography something you actually look forward to each day. Finishing the World Quiz has been a long-time dream of mine, and it finally has a release day.
